Tammi Musumeci believes her aggressiveness was a key to her win over ‘running’ Bianca Basilio 

Tammi Musumeci blames Bianca Basilio for their grappling match going to a decision at ONE Fight Night 8.

On March 24, Tammi made her promotional debut with a unanimous decision win against Basilio. After 10 minutes of competition, it was unclear who would get their hand raised. The contrasting styles combined with the referee forcing them to stand up led to a lackluster submission grappling match.

With that said, Tammi won for effectively attempting more submissions than Basilio. During a post-match interview with SCMP MMA, the sister of ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion, Mikey Musumeci, had this to say about the win:

“I didn’t think [I won] because from my standpoint, I felt like I kept trying to get stuff but she kept running away. I wasn’t able to actually establish something. I thought maybe [it would go the other way], but I’m thankful. It’s a unanimous decision win too, so I guess I did something right.”

Before joining ONE, Musumeci made a name for herself by becoming a four-time No-Gi world champion. The 28-year-old black belt has been training with her brother Mikey Musumeci for their entire lives. Now that she’s made her promotional debut, the New Jersey native wants to stay active inside the Circle.

Tammi Musumeci wants to compete at ONE Fight Night 10

ONE Championship’s first event on U.S. soil has their American fighters hoping for a chance to avoid the long journey to Asia. After competing in Singapore for the first time, Tammi Musumeci hopes to compete at ONE Fight Night 10 in May. She had this to say during the interview with SCMP MMA:

“I’d be down to fight again tonight but I know that’s not possible so whenever. I work full time so it’s easier to fight in the U.S. and it would be cool to get on the May 5 card. I don’t know if it’s possible but whenever they come to the U.S. that would be really cool.”

If Musumeci becomes a late addition to the event, she will compete alongside her brother Mikey Musumeci, who is defending his featherweight submission grappling title against Osamah Almwarwai.

ONE Fight Night 10 also features two other world championship bouts - Demetrious Johnson vs. Adriano Moraes for the flyweight MMA title and Rodtang Jitmuangnon vs. Edgar Tabares for the flyweight Muay Thai world title.
