Tammi Musumeci has no interest in competing for points or titles.

The multi-time IBJJF champion will kick things off on Friday night as she makes her promotional debut at ONE Fight Night 8 on Prime Video. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because Tammi Musumeci is the older sister of ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion Mikey Musumeci.

Unlike her world title-toting brother, she has little interest in winning titles and accolades. All she wants to do is show off her skills, execute impressive submissions, and have some fun along the way. In an interview with ONE Championship, she said:

“I feel like I have submissions from weird places too. I just feel like it's just different styles. I'm just a little different, I guess, to other people. I’m just going out there and trying to hit cool stuff and try to hit cool subs. I’m not really focused so much on titles or any of that stuff. I like to live my life a certain way. I don’t have Instagram or social media. I’m not doing it for titles or anything, I’m just trying to hit cool stuff. So I'm just like, ‘Oh, look, I have this submission,’ not thinking about, ‘Oh, I'm not getting points.’”

Meeting Musumeci inside the circle at Singapore Indoor Stadium will be dangerous for Brazilian grappler Bianca Basilio. An ADCC and IBJJF world champion in her own right, Basilio has an incredible 101 career wins in BJJ competition and scored a 42-second submission against Milena Sakumoto in her ONE Championship debut at ONE 163.

Tammi Musumeci sees similarities and differences between herself and her brother Mikey Musumeci

Tammi Musumeci sees a lot of similarities between herself and her ONE world-champion brother Mikey Musumeci. At the same time, there are glaring differences, particularly in how they operate on the mat.

“I feel I’m like Mikey. I like to joke around and say I’m a knock-off version of him. He gets mad when I say that. I’m like Mikey, I feel. I’m trying to be like Mikey. I feel like I also have some pressure on top, which is a little different. I do some little things differently than him, I think because we have different body types. But I feel like a lot of the time, [my style] is closer to his style.”

One glaring difference between the brother-sister duo is their very different career paths. While both have proven to be masters of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Mikey Musumeci has opted to make submission grappling his life’s work while for Tammi Musumeci, it’s more of a hobby. Something that allows her to take a mental break from her work career as a lawyer.

Of course, that does not mean she is anything less than a fierce competitor. She may not have the same goals as her little brother, but Tammi Musumeci is a motivated individual who has proven both on and off the mat that if she wants to accomplish something, nothing will stand in her way.

Amazon Prime Video subscribers in North America can catch ONE Fight Night 8 live and for free in U.S. primetime this Friday night.
