Tawanchai feeling physically strong ahead of Jamal Yusupov world title defense

ONE featherweight Muay Thai world champion Tawanchai PK.Saenchai is feeling physically strong ahead of his first world title defense at ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video.

Tawanchai is scheduled to defend his title against three-time Russian kickboxing champ Jamal Yusupov. 'Yeniceri' is 3-0 inside the circle with victories over Yodsanklai, Samy Sana, and Jo Nattawut.

The champ will have his work cut out for him in his first title defense, but he told reporters at his pre-fight presser that he's feeling good. He stated:

"For this fight, I have been focusing on my strength. So, of course, sports science is applied, and also I do weight training. My diet has been really good. So there's nothing to worry about."

The 23-year-old phenom attained the featherweight Muay Thai strap by beating Petchmorakot Petchyindee Academy at ONE 161 last September.

Tawanchai isn't underestimating Jamal Yusupov, says the challenger doesn't have many weaknesses

The ONE Fight Night 7 co-headliner features a pair of the world's top Muay Thai practitioners. The champ knows that his incoming challenger is well-rounded, telling the promotion:

“[Yusupov’s] strength is heavy, strong punches. He hardly has any weaknesses. He’s one of the strongest fighters. You can’t underestimate him in any way.”

The 39-year-old Dagestan native has faced many notable opponents, including Marouan Toutouh, Alim Nabiev, and Regian Eersel. He has extensive experience competing under both kickboxing and Muay Thai rules.

Meanwhile, the current featherweight Muay Thai king won the Lumpinee Stadium, Sports Authority of Thailand, and Siam Kela Fighter of the Year awards prior to joining ONE Championship in 2021.

Since then, he has picked up wins over Sean Clancy, Saemapetch Fairtex, Niclas Larsen, and the aforementioned Petchmorakot. He is quickly becoming one of the promotion's most electric fighters.
