Tawanchai is locked and loaded for his first world title defense this week at ONE Fight Night 7 in Thailand. Going into the bout, the Muay Thai phenom is confident that the hours he’s put into perfecting his craft will pay off exponentially when he meets Turkish veteran Jamal Yusupov for the first time.

Coming off of a dramatic decision victory against Petchmorakot Petchyindee for the ONE featherweight Muay Thai world title, the 23-year-old star believes he’s gotten a lot stronger since that fight.

At the pre-event interviews for ONE Fight Night 7, he said:

“I feel like, right now, I am more physically fit. I am stronger. My strength has increased. And also, the training period for this fight is much longer, so I did a lot of training. My physique is much fitter than the last fight.”

The Pattaya native already looked in great physical condition when he faced Petchmorakot for the featherweight strap. But now, he’s no longer challenging for the belt but defending it for the first time, which calls for more intense physical training.

His opponent, Jamal Yusupov, is a fast and explosive Muay Thai striker with great conditioning and power. He remains unbeaten with a 3-0 record in ONE Championship and has the ability to cause some real problems for the defending world champion.

However, unlike Yusupov, Tawanchai has multiple weapons in his arsenal that even Petchyndee had trouble responding to. His vicious push kicks and accurate punches will make it difficult for Yusupov to engage in a brawl, which is a style he uses to win fights.

North American fans can watch Tawanchai attempt to retain his belt on Friday, February 24, live and for free with an Amazon Prime subscription.
