"That's the goal" - Jackie Buntan says two-sport glory is top on her to-do list in 2025

Becoming a kickboxing world champion might not have been something that Jackie Buntan had on the wishlist for 2024 originally. Though she did say earlier in the year that she'd be open to exploring some new avenues if something interesting came up, no one could have predicted what she would go on to do at ONE 169.

In her first kickboxing fight, Buntan defeated Anissa Meksen over five rounds to become the inaugural ONE strawweight kickboxing world champion.

While she looked at home in this different ruleset, the champion is still a Muay Thai specialist at heart and she's not going to forget that anytime soon.

In a recent interview with Val dewar, Jackie Buntan said that in the new year, she hopes to compete in both rulesets with the hope of becoming a two-sport world champion if the opportunity presents itself for her:

"I want to defend my kickboxing belt. I want to go for the Muay Thai belt. I want to go back and forth with both. So that's the goal, double champ."

Jackie Buntan has been able to translate her skills effectively

Jackie Buntan was massively outmatched when it came to high-level kickboxing experience in her clash with Meksen last month at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

In the end, her Muay Thai background ended up giving her the edge in the fight thanks to her boxing skills and the power in her hands.

Buntan made the transition look easy. As such, there's no reason why she wouldn't be able to bounce back and forth from Muay Thai to kickboxing if she wishes.

Considering her current winning streak in Muay Thai, it seems incredibly likely that she will get her opportunity to secure a second belt at some point in 2025, which would be an incredible achievement for the ONE Championship superstar.
