26-year-old Brazilian grappling sensation Mayssa Bastos is one of the most talented jiujiteiros in the world today. But she wasn't always this outgoing, top athlete who competes among the best in the world's largest martial arts organization.
Bastos was admittedly a 'shy child' growing up, and didn't have many friends. It wasn't until the 26-year-old discovered jiu-jitsu that she truly was able to break out of her shell.
Speaking to ONE Championship in a recent interview, Bastos talked about her childhood, and though she tried many different sports when she was young, it was BJJ that resonated with her.

The 26-year-old said:
"I was a very shy child. I’m still quite shy, and I don’t think I’ve ever made many friends because of that. I liked to practice different sports. I tried surfing, but I started judo and jiu-jitsu when I was very young, and that’s where I found myself. To be honest, I don’t remember much, but I liked to play and go to the beach. I still really like going to the beach."
Now, Bastos will get the opportunity of a lifetime when she takes on her toughest adversary yet, on the world's biggest stage for martial arts competition.
