Fans react to Nate Maness joking he weighed nearly 180lbs ahead of flyweight bout with Tagir Ulanbekov

MMA fans were initially stunned when Nate Maness claimed that he weighed nearly 180lbs ahead of his flyweight bout with Tagir Ulanbekov. Fans later realized that Maness was playing a prank on the MMA community ahead of his flyweight debut at UFC Vegas 64.

Nate Maness posted an image of the weighing scale stating that he had a good rehydration session after the weight cut:

"Rehydration went well after an easy little cut 😅 #UFCvegas64"

The whopping weight difference of over forty-five pounds was met with some hysterical reaction by the MMA community. One fan wrote:

"Jesus christ that isn't rehydration that's identifying as a sponge."

Yet another fan joked about the percentage of body water that makes up a significant fraction of the human body:

"They say that the human body is 60% water. Nates body is 94% water."

Another fan hilariously claimed that Maness has perhaps rehydrated on his opponent's behalf as well:

"Bro rehydrated Tagir's weight too."

Looking at all the humorous reactions online, Nate Maness later confirmed that he was joking. The American added that he expected the MMA community on Twitter to understand the joke and was rather let down by them:

"I had more faith that MMA Twitter would know a good troll. I'm not mad.. Im disappointed #UFCvegas64"

Did Nate Maness win his flyweight debut against Tagir Ulanbekov at UFC Vegas 64?

Having competed in the lightweight, featherweight and bantamweight divisions as a professional mixed martial artist, Nate Maness decided to make his flyweight debut against Tagir Ulanbekov at UFC Vegas 64.

After going 3-0 in the UFC since making his debut on August 1, 2020, the American won three straight fights before succumbing to his first loss under the UFC banner against Umar Nurmagomedov earlier this year.

However, Ulanbekov wrecked the occasion of his flyweight debut by defeating the American in the first round via submission.

Ulanbekov went for submission early in the fight. While the two began scrambling for position, the Dagestani caught a standing guillotine choke on Maness' neck and forced his way to a stoppage victory.
