Mayssa Bastos believes she would have forced Danielle Kelly to yield if only she had a few more seconds left on the clock in their intense 10-minute grappling affair at ONE Fight Night 24 last Friday.
Despite not getting the submission, the nine-time IBJJF world champion still emerged as the victor by unanimous decision and dethroned Kelly to become the new atomweight submission grappling world champion.
Speaking during her post-event interview, Bastos recalled the furious finish of the match before she got her hand raised.
The new 115-pound grappling queen shared:

"I feel like my last catch was the best catch of the match. So I feel like if we maybe had a little bit more time, I would [have been] able to [finish her]."
It was neck-to-neck heading into the final minute, with Kelly and Bastos scoring one catch each from referee Herb Dean.
The American went for her trusty toe hold/heel hook combo, the same maneuver she used to get her initial catch.
However, Mayssa Bastos rebuffed her attempt with her own heel hook submission, which was seemingly sunk in deeper before the final horn.
In the end, Bastos prevailed using her technical brilliance and adding another glowing accomplishment to her legendary resume. The Art of Jiu Jitsu Academy star even took home a cool $50,000 performance bonus.

Mayssa Bastos says ONE Fight Night 24 win adds to her legacy
Mayssa Bastos has pretty much won at the highest levels of jiu-jitsu in both Gi and Nogi.
Still, the grappling ace revealed that winning 26 pounds of gold in the world's largest martial arts organization comes with a special prestige.
"It's special because I'm the first Brazilian to ever win [the ONE grappling title], especially because it was a title that I did not have yet, and also [it's] for my legacy. So I think that's it," she told ONE.
