'Sugar' Sean O'Malley has suggested that Jon Jones should refrain from gaining too much weight ahead of his debut in the UFC heavyweight (265-pound) division.

Jones' most recent fight witnessed him defend the UFC light heavyweight (205-pound) title. He defeated Dominick Reyes via unanimous decision at UFC 247 in February 2020. 'Bones' vacated the title in August 2020 and has been preparing for his heavyweight debut ever since.

As reported by Ariel Helwani and confirmed by Jon Jones himself, the latter was targeting a fight against former UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic at the upcoming UFC 282 event on December 10th. Regardless, it's now believed that the Jones-Miocic matchup won't take place at UFC 282.

Instead, Jon Jones could end up making his heavyweight debut against reigning UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou in March 2023, provided Ngannou re-signs with the UFC.

In the latest edition of The BrOMalley Show, UFC bantamweight 'Sugar' Sean O'Malley addressed Jones' heavyweight move. He suggested that he might lose speed if he gains too many pounds. 'Sugar' stated:

"Well, dude, he was probably walking around 230 already; cut down to 205. You put on 10 pounds; you're 240. I mean, the bigger, not necessarily the better. You want to keep somewhat of your speed."

Daniel O'Malley chimed in and pointed out that the power that heavyweights possess is significantly greater than that of the light heavyweights. Sean O'Malley agreed with his brother. 'Sugar' thereby insinuated that Jones has bulked up, probably to make up for the purported power deficit as he moves up to heavyweight.

Chael Sonnen criticizes Jon Jones for the lack of self-promotion during his hiatus

In a recent edition of Beyond the Fight, Chael Sonnen lambasted Jon Jones for not promoting himself effectively during his time away from the octagon. According to Sonnen, Jones (who hasn't fought since February 2020) has failed to create any intriguing storylines for himself apart from his long-awaited potential fight against Francis Ngannou.

Sonnen recalled that back in 2020, a Jon Jones vs. Francis Ngannou matchup was the biggest storyline for 'Bones'. It's the same as of this time. Furthermore, Sonnen explained that Jones should've taken jibes at other elite heavyweights and created feuds with them to better promote himself. Sonnen said:

"He's done absolutely nothing. But imagine what he could have done. And imagine the spot that he would be in. He could be lobbying grenades at Ciryl Gane. He could be lobbying them at Curtis Blaydes, he could be throwing them at Tom Aspinall."
