MMA fans have been reacting to Ciryl Gane's loss at UFC 285 and believe his performances in title fights are similar to Dustin Poirier's.

UFC 285 was main-evented by the returning Jon Jones taking on Gane for the vacant heavyweight title. The bout marked the end of the former light heavyweight champion's three-year octagon hiatus and was also his debut in the division.

Much had been made prior to the fight about how Jones would be able to handle somebody the size of 'Bon Gamin' and whether or not he could hang with the Frenchman on the feet. In typical Jon Jones style, however, he delivered when it mattered and submitted Ciryl Gane in just the third minute of the first round.

Following Gane's loss, a fan on Twitter wrote:

"Heavyweight Division, you have a Dustin Poirier:"

Similar to Gane, Poirier has also come up short on both occasions when he challenged for the lightweight title. 'The Diamond' lost to both Khabib Nurmagomedov and Charles Oliveira via submission.

One fan responded to the post and suggested they believed the comparison before Gane had even faced Jones:

"I've said this even before this fight... as a Dustin fan it's so sadly true."

Another fan suggested adding Colby Covington to the list, who has similarly lost two title fights himself, coming up short against Kamaru Usman both times.

"Add Colby to the list"

Twitter user @my55cents joked that if Gane and Poirier were similar, it means the Frenchman's wife is also private messaging Conor McGregor, referring to his infamous line following his second loss to 'The Diamond' in 2021.

"wait his wife is in McGregor's DM also!?"

UFC heavyweight Tom Aspinall reacts to Jon Jones' victory over Ciryl Gane

Tom Aspinall believes he has a lot of work to do after witnessing Jon Jones dismantle Ciryl Gane in just over two minutes this past weekend.

Aspinall is currently recovering from a serious knee injury, which he suffered in his main event with Curtis Blaydes at UFC London last July. The Manchester-born fighter threw a kick but landed awkwardly and crashed to the floor. The bout was waved off after just 15 seconds and it was later revealed he suffered MCL and ACL damage, which required surgery.

Aspinall, who has been tipped as a future UFC champion, reacted to Jones' performance on Twitter. He wrote:

"The GOAT is the champ of my division. I got a looot of work to do. Let's goooo"
