When reflecting on his own career, Jonathan Haggerty is able to look at where he made mistakes and learned from them to become a better fighter.

It didn't take long for 'The General' to achieve great success after signing with ONE Championship.

In 2019, he would debut with the promotion and defeat Joseph Lasiri, shock the world by dethroning Sam-A and then lose the flyweight Muay Thai world championship in an instant classic with Rodtang Jitmuangnon.

Their rematch was set to take place just five months on from their first meeting and once again, it delivered one of the best fights of the year.

Haggerty recently looked back on this iconic rematch during a recent YouTube video where he explained what went wrong for him on that night.

He attempted to meet fire with fire and after deviating from the game plan, it backfired on him:

"We had a game plan for this fight, and that was to catch you as he was coming in, but when he was bringing so much fire with his hands and putting pressure on me, I just went down. I just went to fight with him, really, which wasn't the best idea. The game plan went out the window for this fight, and I just went to scrap with him, which wasn't a great idea."

Jonathan Haggerty has learned these vital lessons

Still just 27 years of age, Jonathan Haggerty is still learning on the job to some extent.

Whilst he may have come out of his two fights with 'The Iron Man' with two more losses on his record, they will have been invaluable learning experiences that have shaped him into the competitor that you now see today.

The clashes with Rodtang felt like a special moment for striking sports and the same is sure to be the case with Haggerty's next fight.

He's heading to the United States on September 6 to defend the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world championship against the last man to beat Rodtang, Superlek.
