Ryan Garcia has drawn criticism from fans after refusing to cooperate with the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) for drug testing ahead of a potential rematch with Devin Haney. Speaking at the Ring Magazine awards, Garcia dismissed the need for VADA, suggesting alternative agencies should be considered.
Garcia questioned the Haney camp’s insistence on VADA:
“We won’t be using VADA, we’ll be using the people I want to use because for some strange reason Bill Haney keeps saying ‘VADA, VADA, VADA, VADA, VADA’ — it’s kind of strange to me. Why can’t I use USADA or any other organization? Seems a little fishy to me that they love VADA and VADA loves them. It’s just weird. Nobody’s asking those questions, I wonder why... I’m a little salty about it and I’ll never use VADA again because to me that’s fishy."
He cited his distrust following a controversial positive test for Ostarine after their April 2024 bout, which he claims stemmed from tainted supplements.

Fans quickly reacted on social media. One user wrote:
“The lack of accountability is insane …. He was positive even before the fight started.”
Another criticized Garcia’s stance, stating:
“He is another clown that believes the rules do not apply to him. Just let him fight on the Jake Paul Exhibition circuit!💯"

Garcia's potential rematch with Haney, considered one of boxing’s most lucrative fights, remains uncertain due to the standoff over drug testing protocols. Haney’s camp has reportedly insisted on 24-hour, 365 days of random testing, a measure Garcia perceives as unnecessary and biased.
Shakur Stevenson shares his thoughts on potential Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia rematch
Shakur Stevenson shared his thoughts on a potential rematch between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia, highlighting the intrigue surrounding Haney’s return following the controversial fallout from their 2024 fight.
Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Stevenson expressed curiosity rather than outright excitement about the rematch, emphasizing the psychological challenges Haney might face:
"I think excited is a like a strong word but I’m interested. I wanna see how he handles that traumatic experience that he went through, and see how he bounces back from it. I know he’s strong mentally so he [Haney] can win for sure but it all depends on how he’s feeling after he gets back. Is he the same fighter? Let’s see we gotta find out."
