Former two-division world champion Martin Nguyen is currently focused on his match at ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video later this month but has his eyes open on possible fights in the future.

"The Situ-Asian" recently got a call-out from American featherweight contender Garry "The Lion Killer" Tonon, who he said he is considering while also being open to other opponents.

He told SCMP MMA:

“Obviously, we got that recent call-out from Garry Tonon as well. There’s a lot of potential fights to happen in this featherweight division. You just never know.”

Martin Nguyen is the No. 4 contender in the featherweight division and is set to battle No. 5-ranked Shamil Gasanov of Russia at ONE Fight Night 7.

Tonon, for his part, halted a two-fight losing streak in his last match in January and is the No. 2 contender in the weight class.

ONE Fight Night 7 will be broadcast live and for free to all Prime Video subscribers in North America.

Martin Nguyen discusses being away from family and putting everything into fight camp

‘The Situ-Asian’ Martin Nguyen is determined to leave his recent struggles behind and is doing everything he can in training to be in the best shape possible for his fight later this month.

The former two-division world champion has spent the past couple of months away from family in Australia, training at Kill Cliff FC gym in Florida, U.S.A. in preparation for his featherweight duel with Russian Shamil Gasanov on February 24 at ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video in Bangkok.

In an interview with SCMP MMA, Martin Nguyen shared that it has been tough not being with his wife and kids, especially during the holidays, but something he hopes will pay off as he seeks to return to winning consistently.

The Vietnamese-Australian fighter said:

"Life’s been good. Life’s been great, I can’t complain. The family’s been well. I’ve been away from them for the last eight weeks so I can’t wait to see them. I’m just here sacrificing everything I can and putting everything I can into this fight camp, to put on a show for everyone."

Martin Nguyen has hit a rough patch of late, having lost his most recent against Russia's Ilya Freymanov last September.

At Kill Cliff FC, he is sharpening his skills and is getting help and motivation from fellow former two-division world champion Aung La N Sang.
