After a frustrating year for ‘The General’, Jonathan Haggerty is set to return to the circle at ONE on Prime Video 4.
Undisclosed medical reasons kept him out of the ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Grand Prix despite two opportunities, but Haggerty has his mind set on a whole new challenge. On his return, the Brit will move up a weight division to face Vladimir Kuzmin at bantamweight.
The former ONE flyweight Muay Thai world champion has been in there with the very best of his weight class and will now face a new set of challengers as he adapts to fighting at bantamweight.
In an interview with The MMA Superfan, Jonathan Haggerty revealed that despite this new chapter in his career, his experiences at flyweight have prepared him for any new challenge:

“I feel like I’ve fought better people although I’m smaller as a flyweight. My fight IQ is a lot better. Like I said, I’ve been fighting for 17 years. There’s not one fighter that can faze me or scare me apart from the heavyweights.”

‘The General’ made a huge impact at flyweight, winning the world championship. That led to back-to-back classics against Rodtang Jitmuangnon.
Jonathan Haggerty's highly-anticipated bantamweight debut will be his second outing of the year following his win in February over Mongkolpetch in Singapore.
“I love a good test” - Jonathan Haggerty wants a go at Fabricio Andrade if he transitions to MMA
‘The General’ Jonathan Haggerty will make his long-awaited return to the circle at ONE on Prime Video 4 with a new challenge laid out in front of him. Facing dangerous Russian striker Vladimir Kuzmin, the fight will see Haggerty move up a weight class.
Whilst he has shown his undeniable striking prowess in the Muay Thai ranks of the promotion, ‘The General’ has always hinted at competing in MMA at some point in his career.
After previously having an interest in fighting flyweight champ Demetrious Johnson in a mixed-rules fight, Jonathan Haggerty said in the same interview that he would be open to facing the No.1-ranked bantamweight in ONE Championship:
“Now we’re talking about bantamweight. The belt is vacant now, but Fabricio Andrade is really good. He’s really good stand-up-wise. I’d love to test myself. I love a good test. You can tell by the people I’ve been in the ring with. I get in the best to be the best. That’s my saying, take risks and prosper.”
Fabricio Andrade has gone undefeated in ONE Championship, leading him up to a world championship fight that unfortunately ended in a no contest. Despite this, Andrade now claims the No.1 ranking after his performance against John Lineker, even though he didn’t walk away with the belt over his shoulder.
