Reece McLaren claims he will shut down Jarred Brooks and earn a ONE flyweight MMA world title shot.

Earlier this year, Demetrious Johnson officially retired from MMA, vacating his flyweight strap in the process. ONE Championship has since started the search for fighters to compete for the empty throne, with former world champion Adriano Moraes making his case with a second-round submission against Danny Kingad.

On December 6, longtime contender Reece McLaren plans to make a statement and potentially earn the second spot against Moraes. To do so, McLaren must defeat interim strawweight MMA world champion Brooks at ONE Fight Night 26.

During an interview with Nick Atkin, McLaren had this to say about Brooks moving up a division to fight at flyweight:

"Yeah, there’s a reason there are weight classes. If he was 5’7", he’d be absolute trouble for everyone. I cannot deny his skill. He is a current world champion for a reason. But I need to shut that down and put my name on that list as number one for this title."

ONE Fight Night 26 will take place inside the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium. Friday's highly anticipated event in Bangkok, Thailand, can be seen live and for free by North American and Canadian viewers with a Prime Video subscription.

Jarred Brooks plans to silence Reece McLaren's doubt with world-class grappling

Jarred Brooks has showcased his world-class MMA grappling in the ONE strawweight MMA division, leading to a 5-1 promotional record. With that said, Reece McLaren has continuously questioned how Brooks will fare at ONE Fight Night 26 due to his size disadvantage.

With a win against McLaren, Brooks would prove his fighting skills translate at flyweight. Furthermore, 'The Monkey God' would become a top contender in a division that has a vacant world title.

Meanwhile, Brooks is lined up for an undisputed strawweight world title matchup with Joshua Pacio in early 2025. Brooks lost his world title to Pacio earlier this year due to disqualification. Pacio later suffered an injury in training, forcing Brooks to defeat Gustavo Balart for the interim strap.
