Joshua Pacio learned from Jarred Brooks' loss against Reece McLaren.
The ONE strawweight MMA division world title changed hands in March due to Brooks being disqualified against Pacio. A trilogy bout between the two fighters was expected for late 2024 before Pacio suffered a torn ACL in training.
In the meantime, Brooks decided to stay active by defeating Gustavo Balart for the interim strawweight title. 'The Monkey God' decided to challenge himself in the flyweight division by taking on McLaren on Dec. 6.

The American superstar now looks to regain the undisputed strawweight MMA strap in a trilogy bout against Pacio, which has been announced for the ONE 171: Qatar co-main event on Feb. 20, 2025.
During an interview with The MMA Super Fan, Pacio had this to say about Brooks' loss against McLaren:
"Even if we watch his fight against McLaren, there are techniques that he does repeatedly. He does that even if he has a full camp in the strawweight division. We don’t just base our plans on his latest performances, we also look at his past fights."
