"This is a better fight than the Charles fight" - Fans react as Dustin Poirier seemingly appears open to the idea of fighting Ilia Topuria

Current featherweight champion Ilia Topuria recently said that he intends to transition to lightweight. Meanwhile, Dustin Poirier wants to fight one final time before retiring and is looking for a suitable opponent. If Topuria jumps to lightweight, there is a chance for a clash between him and Poirier, which could certainly be a spectacular fight.

Recently, THEMCGINGE on X posted about this probability and wrote:

"Hear me out… If Ilia wants to move up to LW do Ilia Topuria vs Dustin Poirier."

'The Diamond' reposted the aforementioned tweet, implying that if the UFC could make this fight happen, he would be in on it. Meanwhile 'El Matador' said that after he vacates his featherweight title and transitions, he wants to fight Charles Oliveira.

Poirier's post garnered attention from fans. A Redditor @no-shits-givenV3 commented:

"Unpopular opinion but this is a better fight than the Charles fight, Charles got mid defense and is extremely hittable just like max and it will result in another ko, DP does like to stand and bang but he's very very good defensively, got one of the best guards in the game."

Ilia Topuria wants to fight Charles Oliveira over Dustin Poirier

Ilia Topuria wants to fight Charles Oliveira at lightweight and has not mentioned Dustin Poirier. He stated the following in an interview with Spanish sports radio El Partidazo de COPE:

"I’d like to move up to the next weight class, and since Islam [Makhachev] is the champion fighting in January and he won’t be ready…I’d like to fight against the No. 1 contender right now, who’s Charles Oliveira.”
