Fans recently reacted after Matt Brown explained the origin of his nickname and noted that it is related to his personal life. The MMA veteran credited his friends and overcoming addiction as a factor in sticking with that nickname throughout his career.
During his appearance on Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson's JAXXON PODCAST, the 43-year-old detailed the origin of his nickname 'The Immortal' and its significance to overcoming a difficult period. Brown mentioned that he survived an overdose, which resulted in his friends giving him the nickname and him sticking with it throughout his MMA career. He said:
"I overdosed on heroin. It was probably the biggest, closest call. And then we was at a party one day and my friends just said it in passing, they were like, 'damn, bro, you're f***ing immortal, man'. They kind of just said it like they were joking, but it really stuck with me. I kinda took that mentality...So, I got it tattooed on me, just as a mantra for myself. So every morning when I look myself in the mirror, I see that I'm immortal."
