“Time to make a small country proud” - Nico Carrillo ready to carry Scotland’s flag in biggest fight of his career at ONE 170

Nico Carrillo is ready to carry the Scottish identity when he heads to the biggest fight of his career.

The Scottish knockout monster will face off against the surging Nabil Anane for the ONE interim bantamweight Muay Thai world title at the stacked ONE 170 card on Friday, Jan. 24, at Impact Arena.

Taking to Instagram, Carrillo posted that he finished his training camp at Sasiprapa Gym in Bangkok. He also promised to make Scotland proud when he finally gets a shot at ONE Championship gold.

Carrillo is one of the hottest fighters in ONE Championship and has been on a rampage since making his debut under the promotion's banner in 2023.

'King of the North' is a perfect 4-0 in ONE Championship, with all four of his coming via knockout.

Carrillo was an instant force and racked up four straight knockout finishes against Furkan Karabag, Muangthai PK Saenchai, the legendary Nong-O Hama, and Saemapetch Fairtex.

Superlek Kiatmoo9 was originally scheduled to defend the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title against Carrillo, but the Thai superstar pulled out of the card due to injury.

Anane ultimately stepped in to face Carrillo at ONE 170, with the 6-foot-4 phenom putting his five-fight winning streak on the line.

Superlek, who also holds the ONE flyweight kickboxing world title, will face the winner between Carrillo and Anane in a world title unification match on March 23 at Saitama Super Arena.

Carrillo told ONE Championship in an interview that his world title unification match against Superlek is inevitable.

"It's inevitable that I'll become king. This is just another chapter to tell in my story. In order for me to become the undisputed champion, I had to take the hardest road to get there."
