Former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub recently shared his thoughts on Tom Aspinall being the backup fighter for the Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic title fight. Schaub urged the Englishman to stop getting "bullied" and to start throwing his weight around as the interim heavyweight champion.
Aspinall recently put on a spectacular performance against Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304 last weekend and defeated his opponent via first-round knockout. Aspinall's blitzkrieg-esque victory won him a ton of praise from fans and fighters alike, with many doubling down on their call for him to be Jones' next challenger.
Despite the Englishman calling out Jones for an undisputed title match, the reigning UFC heavyweight champion is expected to face Miocic later this year. After UFC 304, Dana White confirmed Aspinall would play backup for that legacy heavyweight bout.

In a recent YouTube video, reposted on X, Schaub weighed in on the situation and said:
"You're a goddamn 1%-er, you gotta start acting like it. What I'm saying is, stick up for yourself, dude. Right now, you're getting bullied... When have we seen a f**king alternate be more talented than the two guys f**king fighting? I'm not saying go against the UFC, I'm not saying talk sh*t to them, that's not the way to go. I'm saying, stick up for yourself."
In the caption of his X post, Schaub urged Aspinall to quit being the "company man" and wrote:
"Tom needs to draw a line in the sand. No more Mr. Nice Guy. Back up fighter for Jon v Stipe!!?! Back up deeez n*ts. Can’t be a company man. History has shown us that."
Daniel Cormier discusses a potential Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall fight
Daniel Cormier recently weighed in on a potential Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall fight and cast doubt on the reigning UFC heavyweight champion's chances against the Englishman.
During a recent episode of the Good Guy/Bad Guy show with Chael Sonnen, Jones' longtime MMA rival shared his thoughts on Aspinall's win over Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304 and called the Englishman "the best heavyweight on the planet" today.
Critiquing Aspinall for being too respectful during his post-fight callout of Jones, 'DC' said:
"That was the only thing that I could do to give him a negative grade on last weekend, but ultimately, Chael, I believe that we are looking at the best heavyweight on the planet because I don't know, man, if Jon Jones will beat this guy, but I will not be quick to say Jon Jones is afraid of him or that it is a foregone conclusion that he beats Jon because I've been in there with Jones."
