In a recent Instagram post, well-respected Brazilian jiu-jitsu artist Tom DeBlass was full of praise for Mikey Musumeci.
DeBlass, who has helped bring the sport to the masses with his 48 schools spread across five continents, has developed a great relationship with ONE Championship.
Mikey Musumeci secured two victories inside the circle this year after signing with ONE Championship. With his latest success, he became the promotion's inaugural ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion.
In DeBlass’s post, which included a photo of the pair together on the mats, he spoke about Musumeci’s ONE Championship signing and how happy he is to see the youngster move to and compete in Asia.

“The new love in my life” - Mikey Musumeci reveals a new obsession he discovered in Manila
ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion Mikey Musumeci has taken to Asian culture after spending a lot of time in Singapore. Whilst he has started to pick up some of the local languages, the cuisine in particular has grabbed his attention.
One of his new obsessions came when he was in Manila, Philippines, to take in ONE’s double bill of events with ONE on Prime Video 5 and ONE 164. The world champion, who is known for his love of pasta, has fallen head over heels in love with a sweet Filipino delicacy known as “ube."
He took to Instagram to express his feelings:
"Ube addict 🇵🇭 the new love in my life 🤣🤣"
Ube or "ube halaya" is a Filipino dessert made out of boiled and mashed purple yam, which is then sweetened and turned into various treats like pastries and ice cream.
In the photo he posted, Mikey Musumeci can be seen holding “polvoron” and some of the jams that can be made with ube. Polvoron is a powder-based candy dessert, whilst ube jam is more of a spread.
Whilst it may not be the sports scientist's chosen diet, Musumeci has become known for being a “foodie” and consuming pasta like it’s going out of fashion. Given his performances inside the circle and shredded physique, it’s hard to make an argument that he needs to make any drastic changes.
