Richard Torrez Jr. secured a fifth-round disqualification victory over Joey Dawejko in a lopsided affair at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona. With this win, the 2020 U.S. Olympic silver medalist improved his record to 11-0 with ten finishes.
Torrez Jr. showcased his heavy-handed style, consistently tagging Dawejko throughout the fight. By the fourth round, Dawejko was bleeding from the nose and appeared to be in a fog, failing to mount any effective offense against his rival.
It appeared as if Dawejko had conceded the bout after his mouthpiece repeatedly kept falling out. After losing it four times in the fourth, the referee warned him about the possibility of disqualification. Just one minute into the fifth round, after absorbing another powerful shot from Torrez Jr., Dawejko lost his mouthpiece yet again, prompting the referee to stop the contest at the 2:02 mark of the round.

"Torrezchenko made him quit."
"Kept spitting his mouse piece out embarrassing."
"There were some interesting exchanges there at the end. Not that the result would have changed, but it would’ve been nice for the [referee] to recognize that that was not the moment to enforce the DQ. It likely would’ve come shortly after, but it killed good action."
"Never seen a DQ over that .. but have seen points deducted."
"Guy should be banned from stepping in the arena….total waste."

Following the win, Torrez Jr. lauded his opponent's grit and said:
"Joey was a vet. He didn’t give up. That mouthpiece came out a little too much and that’s also a veteran move. But at the end of the day congratulations to him. He put up a good fight. I think we were able to show some more boxing ability like I was talking to you about. I am whatever you say I am. If you tell me I’m a prospect, I’m a prospect. If you tell me I’m a contender, I’m a contender. I’m Richard Torrez at the end of the day. I’m going to fight the same way.”
