Tracy Cortez recently called for a historic women's 'BMF' title fight against Alexa Grasso at the Las Vegas Sphere for Noche UFC in September. UFC 306 will have a special themed Mexican Independence Day and the Scottsdale native is attempting to get a massive bout.

The No.11 ranked UFC women's flyweight has an excellent opportunity coming up as she takes on Rose Namajunas in the main event of this weekend's UFC on ESPN 59. Cortez agreed to replace Maycee Barber, and so a win over the No.6 ranked flyweight could very well insert her in the title picture at 125 pounds.

During her appearance on today's episode of The MMA Hour, the 30-year-old expressed interest in fighting Grasso at the Sphere, which Dana White has promised to be a spectacular event. Cortez mentioned that she would be willing to fight the women's flyweight champion should Valentina Shevchenko decline a title shot. She said:

"I heard that Valentina [Shevchenko] doesn't want to fight Alexa [Grasso] at the Sphere. After this fight, I would love, whether it's for the women's baddest female fighter ['BMF'] or just to put on a great show for Mexican Independence Day, I would love to fight Alexa [Grasso]."

Tracy Cortez and Alexa Grasso both competed at Noche UFC in 2023

Tracy Cortez and Alexa Grasso are no strangers to the themed Noche UFC as they both competed on the special Fight Night card last year.

The event took place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, which has traditionally been a venue for pay-per-views. At the event, Cortez earned an impressive unanimous decision win over Jasmine Jasudavicius to extend her winning streak to 11 consecutive wins.

Grasso, on the other hand, made her first title defense against Valentina Shevchenko in the main event. It was an immediate rematch of their UFC 285 bout earlier that year, which saw the Mexican pull off an upset and submit 'Bullet' to become the new champion. There was no winner as the judges scored the bout as a split draw, and so discussions for a trilogy soon followed.
