Tracy Cortez shares undisclosed details of losing fake eyelashes mid-fight and Rose Namajunas' precision

UFC women's flyweight contender Tracy Cortez recently opened up about the viral moment that took place during her clash against Rose Namajunas back in July.

Cortez was handed the toughest test of her career so far when she faced Namajunas in the main event of UFC on ESPN 59. The 30-year-old was looking for a statement win to move up the rankings, whereas Namajunas was hoping to win her second bout in a row.

It didn't take 'Thug' to show her former championship pedigree, however, as she dominated the fight and neutralized the offense of Cortez throughout. The former strawweight champ ultimately had her hand raised via unanimous decision, but the bout is mostly remembered for an incident that happened during the first round.

After Rose Namajunas landed a 1-2 combination to drop Tracy Cortez, slow motion replays showed she actually punched off one of Cortez's fake eyelashes during the exchange.

After taking part in a number of interviews about the incident following the fight, Cortez has now shared some undisclosed details during her recent appearance on George Janko's podcast. According to Cortez, Namajunas managed to catch her at the only angle the eyelashes would have come off. She explained:

"I actually flew my girl out so she could do my lashes...They were like fresh, they were individual, everyone thought they were strips...I could rub my eyes and they wouldn't come off...The precision this girl [Namajunas] had to have so they [the eyelashes] could all come off, wow."

Tracy Cortez explains why she's unable to fight twice in the same year

Tracy Cortez recently opened up about her fight activity and explained why, over the last few years, she's been unable to make the walk to the octagon more than once a year.

Since 2019, when Cortez fought professionally three times and earned her UFC contract, she has fought five times, with each fight taking place a year apart from the other. Whilst some fighter's are happy to have a similar work load, Cortez has revealed it's been due to behind-the-scenes incidents that have prevented her from fighting more.

Speaking on the aforementioned podcast, the Arizona native said:

"I was supposed to fight in Dec. 2022, I didn't get cleared to fight. That was my first time I was able to fight twice in one year [in the UFC]. Since then, since 2022, I've been struggling to fight two times a year. Something happens everytime. I fight once, something happens."
