Reinier de Ridder says size advantage over Tye Ruotolo is ‘nice’ but not underestimating opponent
Tye Rutolo is no stranger to competing against opponents that are larger than him and that will be no different at ONE Fight Night 10 on May 5.
In Colorado, Tye will take on the ONE middleweight world champion Reinier de Ridder in a submission grappling contest, where ‘The Dutch Knight’ will have a sizable weight and height advantage.
Whilst de Ridder is well aware of the physical advantages he holds in this contest, he is keen to point out that this isn’t the only factor that can influence the result.
Whilst Ruotolo will be moving up several weight classes to meet the Dutchman at middleweight, he also has the benefit of being a dedicated submission grappling competitor whilst for de Ridder, it is just one aspect of his skillset.
In an interview with the South China Morning Post, Reinier said:
“Well, of course that’s nice, but he has his own benefits. He’s a full-time grappler, fully focused on this through the years. I have not been able to fully focus on grappling, of course, because I always had to do my wrestling, my cage work, and my striking. In that regard, he has the advantage there.”
