Kade and Tye Ruotolo have become two of the leading competitors in submission grappling. Both brothers have had breakout years and have fueled ONE Championship’s progression into grappling.

Kade Ruotolo has become one of the leading competitors in the sport after he made history as the youngest-ever ADCC world champion at the age of 19. He followed that up by becoming the inaugural ONE lightweight submission grappling world champion and defending his world title last Friday at ONE on Prime Video 5.

Whilst Tye Ruotolo may not have the same level of accolades as his brother this year, he is right next to him in leading the way for submission grappling with ONE championship.

Tye’s style has caught the eyes of fans and earned him two performance bonuses in his two fights inside the circle. With submission victories over Garry Tonon and Marat Gafurov, Tye has become a leading example of showing that submission grappling can be entertaining.

In their post-event press conference following ONE on Prime Video 5, the Ruotolo brothers spoke about putting on a show and how that can grow the sports audience.

Tye Ruotolo said:

"I hope it's exciting. That's my main goal, it's to be exciting and respectful at the same time. And that's what jiu-jitsu is all about, it's showing respect to your opponent and going for the kill. So that's what I wanted to represent. I want to represent jiu-jitsu in the highest form possible. And yeah, I like to think we're doing a good job and keep it going.”

Tye Ruotolo lists reasons why he doesn’t like fighting his twin brother Kade

As he continues to pick up victories inside the circle, Tye Ruotolo would prefer not to face his brother Kade, who is the ONE lightweight submission grappling world champion.

Speaking at the ONE on Prime Video 5 post-fight press conference following his win over Marat Gafurov, Tye Ruotolo said:

“Yeah, absolutely. I started fighting bigger people a little while ago. And the reason for that being is, my brother and I were always really the same size growing up. In the last couple of years, I've had maybe a five-pound weight advantage on him.”

He continued to explain how he moved up in weight to avoid fighting his brother:

“So I've just been fighting and going up in the division so we can kind of stay away from each other because, at the end of the day, I don't like to fight him that much. He's super tough and he's my brother at the end of the day.”

Both Kade and Tye Ruotolo joined ONE Championship earlier this year, with both twins picking up victories on their debuts at ONE 157 in May.

Six months later, the two prodigies are still undefeated inside the circle, with one world championship already claimed and another one likely not far away.
