Tye Ruotolo wants to perform to the best of his abilities when he takes to the ONE Championship Circle. Unfortunately for the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, he came up short of that goal at ONE Fight Night 23 on July 5.
The ONE welterweight submission grappling world champion crossed paths with promotional newcomer Jozef Chen in a 186-pound catchweight submission grappling contest inside the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Although he managed to get his hand raised after an intense 10-minute scrap, the Atos representative believes he was far from the high standard that many have come to expect from one of jiu-jitsu's biggest names today.

Speaking to Sportskeeda MMA shortly after his win inside the Thai capital, Tye Ruotolo bemoaned his inability to get a finish.
Looking at the positive side of things, the California native realized that he has it in him to create a path to victory even though he's not at 100 percent.
He said:
"No excuses [on not getting the finish]. I just didn't do what I came to do. Just gotta get back in the lab and work harder. So the next time, even on my worst day, nobody can even survive in there with me."
Ruotolo's win inside the Mecca of Muay Thai nudged his promotional record to a pristine 7-0. The 21-year-old's impeccable run includes two world title victories against Magomed Abdulkadirov (via unanimous decision) and Izaak Michell (via Ruotolotine/modified arm-in choke).
