During an interview with veteran MMA journalist Shakiel Mahjouri, Strickland was asked whether he was offered a fight against Chimaev in The Kingdom. 'Tarzan' dismissed the idea of fighting in Saudi Arabia and outlined some cultural issues as his reasons for not traveling there. He said:

"Nah, I wouldn't go to Saudi Arabia. Hang out with a bunch of burqas, I'm good man... Something about burqas and no bikinis and sh*t doesn't sound like my place."

When Khamzat Chimaev claimed he beat up Sean Strickland in sparring

Earlier this year, Khamzat Chimaev shared his thoughts on Sean Strickland and addressed the former UFC middleweight champion's "macho man" persona. Chimaev and Strickland seemingly partook in some sparring sessions, where the Chechen-born fighter claims to have gotten the better of his partner.

During an interview with MMA reporter Brett Okamoto, 'Borz' claimed that he dominated Strickland during their training sessions. He said:

"Ask that guy, 'Who was beating you up every day in the gym, huh?' So, how many times I saw, meet that guy? How many times I beat him up? He went to his coach, man. He went to his coach, 'Please, tell this guy, man. Go easy, go easy.'"

Chimaev then spoke about Strickland's hyper-masculine persona and said:

"He trying to, like, he say, 'I'm man, I'm this, I that. I'm against the gays.' He's trying to be some macho man. You're not macho man. When I punched your heart, you went to your coach and said, 'Please, tell this guy, go easy.'"
