Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk was canceled last week due to negotiations breaking down regarding rematch purse splits.

Former WBC light welterweight champion boxer Timothy Bradley said this from the ESPN commentary box regarding the undisputed heavyweight championship falling through:

“Fury is the one to blame. I'm sick of the mess. I call this a legitimate duck by Fury, he's ducking Usyk. He didn't think Usyk was gonna take 70/30. The goalposts got moved again, they kept getting moved.”

Oleksandr Usyk had initially agreed to an abnormal 70/30 fight split in favour of Tyson Fury. In any event that the two world champions come together to negotiate, the split is usually around a 50-50 or 60-40 depending on who holds more belts or the more significant belts.

However, since the fight was set to take place in Fury’s home country of England, an exception was to be made. Reports suggest that negotiations broke down when discussing the percentages in the event of a rematch.

Usyk is now expected to face Daniel Dubois for a mandatory defense of his WBA Heavyweight title.

Deontay Wilder not ‘surprised’ that Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk was canceled

Former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder doesn’t think that the undisputed heavyweight title fight being canceled is surprising.

Wilder told The Mirror what he thought about the fight falling through for his heavyweight competitors.

"This is the business of boxing, it’s a very difficult business. For me the business of boxing is one of the most difficult businesses to be in because it has no structure, so it can go any way. It has so many loopholes, so many tunnels, so many avenues it can travel, so it’s not a surprise to me that it fell apart like that.
"Just like many other fights before, so we can’t be surprised at this because we’ve seen so many of the best fights that we think would have happened but didn’t happen and fall apart. So for me a fight isn’t final until you get in the ring and the bell goes ding.”

Deontay Wilder has prevailed over Tyson Fury thrice in one of the most memorable trilogies in heavyweight boxing, and is expected to return to the boxing ring sometime this year.
