UFC 281 - Main card fights
The UFC 281 card is stacked from top to bottom. Just when you thought the UFC couldn't up the ante after the UFC 280 lineup, they've presented us with another blockbuster card.
The UFC 281 pay-per-view card will feature two title fights. The main event will see undisputed middleweight champion Israel 'The Last Stylebender' Adesanya defend his gold against Alex 'Poatan' Pereira.
Adesanya is undefeated at middleweight in the UFC. His latest rival presents a unique challenge, though, as Pereira boasts two wins over him in kickboxing. Their last outing together saw the Brazilian knock the Nigerian-New Zealander out.
Since losing to Pereira, Adesanya has only lost to Jan Błachowicz at light heavyweight in combat sports.
The co-main event will feature strawweight champion Carla Esparza taking on Chinese phenom and former champ Zhang Weili. Esparza is coming off a win over Rose Namajunas at UFC 274 in what many considered a lackluster fight.
Weili, on the other hand, is coming off a knockout win over former strawweight queen Joanna Jędrzejczyk at UFC 275.
The card will also feature former interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier duking it out with Michael Chandler in what could be a potential Fight of the Night.
Both lightweights have been going back and forth on social media and even had an in-person verbal spat at UFC 276. Chandler is coming off a knockout win over perennial contender Tony Ferguson at UFC 274.
Poirier, meanwhile, last fought against then-champion Charles Oliviera at UFC 269, where he was submitted by the Brazilian in the third round.
The card also boasts Frankie Edgar vs. Chris Gutierrez in what will be the former lightweight champ's retirement fight. UFC 281 will mark Frankie Edgar's 30th appearance in the promotion.
Elsewhere, Dan Hooker will face off against Claudio Puelles in what is expected to open the main card. Hooker is on a two-fight losing streak going into the fight with Puelles, who is on a five-fight win streak.
