Robbie Lawler's much-anticipated bout against Santiago Ponzinibbio has reportedly been canceled due to an undisclosed injury suffered by Lawler during the lead-up to the pay-per-contest in Las Vegas this weekend.

It's currently unknown if Ponzinibbio will still be able to compete at UFC 282, with the organization looking for a replacement fighter. There is also no time frame on how long or serious Lawler's injury is. But it must be somewhat serious to have required the fighter to withdraw from such a high-profile bout.

The fight was scheduled to be the third-last contest at UFC 282. Only Paddy Pimblett vs. Jared Gordon and Jan Blachowicz vs. Magomed Ankalaev were billed higher than the welterweight bout.

Robbie Lawler was looking to end a poor run of form in the UFC against Santiago Ponzinibbio, with 'Ruthless' losing five out of his last six bouts under the organization's banner. His only win during this form came against Nick Diaz at UFC 266: Volkanovski vs. Ortega, however, Diaz looked nowhere near his best during the contest.

Lawler's latest outing was also a tough loss, having been stopped by Bryan Barberena after just two rounds of fighting at UFC 276: Adesanya vs. Cannonier in July this year.

When did Robbie Lawler last win consecutive bouts in the UFC?

Despite getting good results against both Nick Diaz and Donald Cerrone since 2017, these victories have been few and far between, with Lawler failing to win back-to-back bouts since 2014.

Some of Lawler's best UFC form came between 2014 and 2016, with 'Ruthless' winning five consecutive fights during that time period. The American defeated the likes of Jake Ellenberger, Matt Brown, Johny Hendricks, Rory MacDonald, and Carlos Condit in back-to-back bouts.

Robbie Lawler recently lost four UFC fights in a row. Rafael dos Anjos, Ben Askren, Colby Covington, and Neil Magny beat 'Ruthless' between 2017 and 2020.

'Ruthless' was scheduled to face Santiago Ponzinibbio at UFC 282 this weekend, but Lawler suffered an injury and was forced to withdraw from the contest. It's currently unknown how long the MMA legend will be out of action, but at 40 years old, Lawler's recovery timetable is uncertain.
