In a high-stakes matchup at UFC 308, Magomed Ankalaev defeated Aleksandar Rakić via unanimous decision, inching closer to a title shot against reigning light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira.
Ankalaev, coming in as the heavy favorite with an 18-1-1 record, was determined to prove his place as the division’s top contender after months of feuding with Pereira. Rakić, meanwhile, looked to break his two-fight losing streak after suffering a TKO loss to Jiří Procházka at UFC 300, entering the Octagon as a +300 underdog.
The fight began with a tactical first round. Rakić aimed to use his kicks to disrupt Ankalaev’s rhythm, but the Dagestani fighter responded with precision strikes and steady pressure, securing the round in the judges’ eyes.
By Round 2, Ankalaev’s power and relentless pursuit started to wear on Rakić, who struggled to match Ankalaev’s pace and accuracy. Though Rakić landed some notable shots, including a right hand and low kicks, Ankalaev’s consistent offense gave him the advantage.
