Islam Makhachev has been rumored to cut an enormous amount of weight to make the 155-pound lightweight championship limit. His coaches and training partners have boasted about the size and strength of Makhachev, particularly when outside of his fight camps.

Discussions surrounding his weight were most prevalent for his UFC 284 clash with Alexander Volkanovski in Australia. Makhachev visibly struggled to make the weight and teammates of the Dagestani's pointed to the shortened rehydration window for his UFC 284 clash compared to other UFC events as the reason why the fight was so competitive.

According to reports, Makhachev had roughly 12 less hours than normal to rehydrate after making weight at UFC 284.

Following UFC 311 on Jan. 18, where the 33-year old defeated Renato Moicano in the main event, the official fight night weights of each fighter have been revealed. Somewhat surprisingly, Moicano rehydrated to a larger weight on the night than Makhachev, an unexpected occurance given the lightweight champion's rumored walkaround weight.

The official numbers, as per the California State Athletic Commission, saw Makhachev's rehydration weight sitting at 178 pounds, meaning he gained 23.5 pounds after weigh-ins. Moicano, meanwhile, rehydrated to a weight of 181.8 pounds, gaining almost a full three pounds more than his opponent.

Islam Makhachev believes he can be a three-division UFC champion

UFC 311 saw Islam Makhachev make history as the first lightweight champion to defend the title four times. He submitted Renato Moicano in the first-round to make it four finishes in five championship fight wins.

Given Makhachev's long-rumored ability to compete with fighters in higher weight classes, as well as his apparent walkaround weight of 200 pounds, the 33-year old is confident that he can become the first ever three-division UFC champion.

The Dagestani recently shared his interest in moving up to middleweight and challenging Dricus du Plessis, given his desire to avoid facing friend and occasional teammate Belal Muhammad

Following UFC 311, Makhachev appeared infront of the media and said:

"I can be three-division [champion] also, just give me the chance. I will fight with Du Plessis if they give me the chance, I will fight with him also. I swear, if Dana White send me a contract I will fight with him."
