UFC 311 just wrapped up. The UFC's first pay-per-view event of the year took place on Jan. 18 at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, California, USA. It featured 13 fights in seven weight classes, with two title bouts at the top. This article recaps the fights and explores UFC 311 full results.

In the main event, Islam Makhachev attempted his fourth lightweight title defense against No.10-ranked Renato Moicano. Makhachev was originally scheduled to fight No.1-ranked Arman Tsarukyan, who was forced to pull out of the fight on the day of weigh-ins due to a back injury. Moicano, originally scheduled to fight Beneil Dariush on the main card, stepped up to save the main event on short notice.

Moicano started the fight by cautiously advancing with jabs and leg kicks. Makhachev put him on his back with a single-leg takedown. The Brazilian did not absorb any damage and ultimately created separation to try and stand up. Makhachev quickly jumped with a front headlock and secured a D'arce choke, forcing the Brazilian to tap out.

With the win, Makhachev broke the record for most consecutive title defenses in lightweight history (four). Previously, he tied the record with B.J. Penn, Frankie Edgar, Benson Henderson, and Khabib Nurmagomedov for three title defenses. He is also one win away from matching all-time great Anderson Silva's record of most consecutive wins in UFC history (16).

In the co-main event, Bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili attempted his first title defense against No.2-ranked Umar Nurmagomedov. The pair were engaged in a heated rivalry in the lead-up to the fight turning it into a grudge match.

Wary of each other's grappling prowess, Nurmagomedov and Dvalishvili remained committed to striking early. A sneaky left straight from Nurmagoemdov wobbled the champion, marking the most significant moment of Round 1.

Nurmagomedov, who appeared to be slightly better in striking, executed a back trip to take Dvalishvili down but struggled to mount any offense. Round 3 saw Dvalishvili fighting at a furious pace, landing takedowns and strikes, which led to Nurmagomedov getting rapidly exhausted.

Dvalishvili intensified the attack and took an even more offensive posture with relentless takedown attempts and volume striking. Nurmagomedov's exhaustion became apparent as his strikes became more labored and the takedown attempts less committed.

A looping right hand stunned Nurmagomedov in the final frame, leading to more takedowns in the closing minutes. After the dominant performance, Dvalishvili was declared the winner by a unanimous decision.

With this victory, Dvalishvili set the record for the most takedowns landed in UFC history (92), surpassing welterweight great Georges St-Pierre's record of 90 takedowns.

UFC 311: Main card results - Jiri Prochazka defeats Jamahal Hill in a chaotic battle

Former light heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka and Jamahal Hill fought in a three-round fight on the main card. Both men were coming off losses against reigning champion Alex Pereira in their last fights and hoped to re-insert their names in the title picture with a win.

At the beginning of the fight, Hill struggled to gauge his range against Prochazka's unorthodox style. Prochazka scored a knockdown early with a powerful straight left, but the American displayed resilience in surviving.

Although Hill started having success in finding the target as the fight progressed, Prochazka's strikes appeared to be more impactful. A series of body shots seemed to be swaying the momentum in Hill's favor and drew visible reactions from the Czech fighter.

However, Prochazka turned up the heat and dropped Hill with a winging right hand in Round 3. Although Hill survived the knockdown, the aggressor did not allow him to recover completely and continued to overwhelm him with high-volume attacks. Hill went down again and the referee stopped the fight after a few more strikes, declaring Prochazka the winner by knockout.

Heavyweight grapplers Jailton Almeida and Sergey Spivak fought in a three-round contest. Although Almeida was expected to initiate the grappling, Spivak took him down early, and controlled him on the ground, landing powerful strikes.

After several reversals between them, Almedia escaped and hurt Spivak in the stand-up, leading to another takedown. Almeida then delivered multiple strikes from the top position until the referee stopped the fight due to Spivak's failure to defend himself.

In the main card opening bout, Kevin Holland faced former ONE two-division champion Reinier de Ridder in the middleweight division.

De Ridder put Holland on his back with a single-leg takedown after distracting him with a jab. After transitioning through positions and fighting off Holland's defensive maneuvers, the Dutch fighter took his back and forced a tap with a rear-naked choke.

De Ridder has now won both his UFC fights by submission, having defeated Gerald Meerschaart by third-round submission in his November 2024 debut.

UFC 311: Preliminary card results: Raoni Barcelos stops Payton Talbott's unbeaten run

Bantamweight prospect Payton Talbott faced the tough challenge against veteran fighter Raoni Barcelos in the preliminary card headlining bout. Barcelos, the biggest betting underdog (+750) on the card, effectively neutralized Talbott's striking with well-timed takedowns and strong ground control.

Despite Talbott's improved takedown defense and striking toward the end of Round 2, Barcelos regained momentum and dominated the remainder of the fight. With sustained submission attempts, ground-and-pound, and moments in stand-up exchanges, Barcelos won all three rounds on the judges' scorecards. This was Talbott's first professional MMA defeat.

Russia's Azmat Bekoev made his UFC debut with a first-round knockout of Zachary Reese on the UFC 311 preliminary card. Bekoev grabbed a single leg after initial exchanges and Reese went to the ground off an elbow attempt. Bekoev weathered Reese's submission attempts and strikes from the bottom, finishing the fight with powerful ground-and-pound strikes in full guard.

Surging Uzbek, Bogdan Guskov continued his finishing streak by defeating newcomer Billy Elekana in a short-notice fight. Elekana controlled the first round after a well-timed takedown, but Guskov reversed the position and nearly finished with a rea-naked choke.

Guskov dominated with striking in the second frame, forcing Elekana to drop to his knees. This ultimately led to Guskov securing a guillotine choke from the standing-to-ground position, forcing a tap from Elekana. The finish ended the streak of decisions at the event.

Grant Dawson defeated Carlos Diego Ferreira by unanimous decision, demonstrating his dominant wrestling skills. Although Ferreira showed promise in the striking exchanges, Dawson minimized these opportunities by quickly bringing the fight to the ground. His control in the grappling department ultimately led to his victory.

UFC 311: Early prelims results

Ailin Perez won the only women's MMA fight of the event, defeating Carol Rosa by unanimous decision. Perez established an early lead with her wrestling. Rosa showcased her striking and better takedown defense in Round 3, but it was not enough to change the outcome.

Elsewhere on the early prelims, Muin Gafurov and Bernardo Sopaj won by unanimous decision against Rinya Nakamura and Ricky Turcios, respectively.

No.11-ranked flyweight Tagir Ulanbekov secured his third straight victory by defeating Clayton Carpenter by unanimous decision in the first fight of the night.
