Cody Brundage has revealed that he's fighting for something greater than glory, fame, and riches every time he steps into the UFC octagon. The 27-year-old shared that he is fighting to honor his daughter, Kingsley, who was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition late last year.

Ahead of his sophomore appearance in the octagon, Brundage wore a black forearm sleeve that had his daughter's name on it, written in purple text. Brundage, who won his preliminary card clash against Dalcha Lungiambula, wore the same armband during his post-fight press conference. Asked about the significance of the sleeve, he explained:

"It's my daughter's name, Kingsley, in purple, which is [the color of] epilepsy awareness. I've been kind of vocal about it, nobody has really asked me too much. The UFC did a story about it. She has a very rare genetic condition and I actually found out the week of my first UFC fight. So that was a really hectic week."

Brundage went on to explain the condition his daughter was diagnosed with. The South Carolina native continued:

"It's called AOG 13. There's only, like, 40 documented cases of it. Basically, kids who have it are predisposed to epilepsy, seizures, [and] major delays developmentally so the UFC made this for me to kind of just honor that, honor her. You know, she gives me a lot of motivation for what I'm fighting for. I thought it was really cool they did that and allowed me to promote that on their platform."

Cody Brundage defeats Dalcha Lungiambula

According to a feature published by UFC.com, Cody Brundage found out about his daughter's illness the week he was preparing for his octagon debut. He went on to lose to Nick Maximov via unanimous decision after three rounds.

Five months later, Brundage was given the opportunity to redeem himself against Dalcha Lungiambula . Needless to say, the middleweight standout made the most out of his second promotional appearance at UFC Fight Night: Santos vs. Ankalaev.

Brundage overcame a rocky start as his opponent came out firing on all cylinders, having him hurt badly. However, he stayed in the fight and defended himself intelligently.

During a grappling exchange, Brundage caught a break when he found an opening to lock in a guillotine choke. Unable to escape, Lungiambula was forced to tap out at the 3:41 mark of round one.
