UFC Fight Tonight: Alex Pereira looks to dethrone Israel Adesanya at UFC 281
Alex Pereira will enter the main event of UFC 281 this Saturday hoping to capture the middleweight title in what will be his fourth octagon appearance. This will be the third time 'Poatan' goes head-to-head against Israel Adesanya in combat sports after having defeated 'The Last Stylebender' twice during their days in Glory Kickboxing.
Several fans expect the third meeting between the duo to play out like their battles in kickboxing. However, considering that the pair will now meet inside the UFC octagon, Adesanya may have an edge due to his experience as a mixed martial artist.
While Pereira has only been in seven professional MMA fights, 'The Last Stylebender' has compiled a 23-1 record in the sport. His sole defeat came at the hands of Jan Blachowicz in his bid to become the light heavyweight champion.
However, Pereira has elite-level kickboxing skills, which has also been a major factor behind Adesanya's success in the MMA world. The Brazilian is a multi-time kickboxing world champion across multiple divisions and has amassed a total of 21 knockout wins during his kickboxing career. The 35-year-old also holds five stoppage wins on his 6-1 MMA resume.
In his latest outing, Pereira dispatched top contender Sean Strickland with a brutal first-round knockout. The Brazilian could pose some serious threat to the champion despite being relatively new to MMA.
