UFC fighter reacts to Donald Trump surviving gunshot assassination attempt during live election rally

During a nationally broadcasted live election rally on July 13, former United States President Donald Trump was the target of an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania. The 78-year-old survived the attack seemingly without any major injury with the gunshots just clipping his right ear and missing his head by a matter of inches.

In the chaotic aftermath, several UFC fighters, including lightweight Terrance McKinney, expressed concern and support for the 2024 presidential candidate on social media. 'T-Wrecks' is not often political with his media activity but quickly reacted to the absurd incident on X.

McKinney tweeted:

"Shooting the president in public that man is going away for life"

McKinney has not been as vocal in his support for Trump as his close friend, Kevin Holland, expressed at UFC 302 by jumping over the octagon to meet the businessman after submitting Michal Oleksiejczuk. However, the 29-year-old currently resides in Texas, a majority Republican state.

The lightweight mainstay went on to praise Trump for his brazen actions after getting shot along with many others on social media. After rising up with Social Security by his side, Trump held up a fist with blood streaming down the side of his face.

Other UFC fighters react to Donald Trump assassination attempt

Shortly after Terrance McKinney tweeted his thoughts on the Donald Trump assassination attempt, countless other fighters chimed in with their own opinions on the bizarre situation.

Former title challengers Gilbert Burns and Marlon 'Chito' Vera added their tweets to the mix. Burns echoed the thoughts of most Americans, calling the attack "insane." Neither fighters are known to be a United States citizen but reside in Florida and California, respectively, with Burns being a member of Kill Cliff FC and Vera training with Jason Parillo and the RVCA Fight Team.

Retired former title challenger and outspoken Republican Jake Shields added his thoughts as well, calling Trump "a gangster as f***" for his reaction to the gunshot.

Former bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling, who has not been a vocal Trump supporter, called the murder attempt "major foul play" regardless of "what side you're on." With the attack coming from an alleged Joe Biden supporter, Sterling noted that a "fair fight for the office is better than someone trying to take the opposition's life."

With the attack occurring in the early evening of July 13, the suspect has yet to be publicly identified. Trump was presumably rushed to a nearby hospital but the status of his current health remains unknown.
