Glover Teixeira retires after loss against Jamahal Hill at UFC 283
Glover Teixeira's incredibly resilient battle with Jamahal Hill ultimately proved to be his last-ever outing inside the UFC octagon.
The Brazilian legend announced his retirement right after the match ended. The unprecedented decision came on the same night as Shogun Rua, another Brazilian MMA icon, also retired after a TKO loss.
In his octagon interview, Teixeira said:
"In reality I think I'm too tough for my own good. Too tough for my own health. You know, I can't keep up anymore... It's an honor to put the gloves down on the same night as Shogun. I wish we were in the Royce Gracie era where we could just go no rounds and keep going in this s**t. But I'm just not keeping up anymore."
Teixeira's retirement opens up the division for his fellow compatriot and friend Alex Pereira. 'Poatan' is currently the middleweight champion but has hinted towards a move-up due to his imposing physique. His decision hinged on whether he would challenge Teixeira or not.
