In an exclusive interview with Andrew Whitelaw for Sportskeeda MMA, Alex Perez was asked if he saw anyone among the current crop of flyweights that could match up to Demetrious Johnson, to which he replied:

"Nah, I think what Demetrious Johnson did for the division, and in the division, I don't think anybody's going to be able to rewrite that. Kind of like Anderson Silva... You know, no one's been able to do what he's done with the title defenses. So I feel like Demetrious is right there."

Alex Perez on whether he will fight Brandon Moreno one day

Alex Perez recently opened up about wanting to fight Brandon Moreno eventually. While the No.6-ranked flyweight acknowledged Moreno's status as the flyweight champion, Perez iterated his belief that he could beat the Mexican.

Interestingly, Alex Perez was scheduled to face the current flyweight champion at UFC 255 in November 2020, but their fight never materialized, and Perez faced Deiveson Figueiredo instead at the same event.

In the same exclusive interview, Perez was asked if he'd like to face Moreno in the future, to which he replied:

"Yeah, I think everyone in the division should fight to see who's the real number one guy. I mean, congrats to him. He's done amazing things."

Upon being asked if Brandon Moreno is currently the best flyweight in the UFC, Perez answered in the affirmative but remained confident in his ability to defeat him.

"As of right now, he is. He has the title, and he's beat the number one guy in the division, so you have to say yeah. Do I feel like I could beat him? Of course."

Meanwhile, Alex Perez is set to face Manel Kape in a flyweight scrap at UFC San Antonio this weekend at the AT&T Center in Texas.
