Dricus du Plessis and Sean Strickland running it back for a championship rematch makes a lot of sense to a former top 10-ranked UFC heavyweight. The individual in question recently spoke to MMA media personality The Schmo at SEMA 2024 which is a vehicle-centric trade show.

Brendan Schaub got into the machinations of the middleweight division right now, with Strickland and Khamzat Chimaev seemingly being the frontrunners for the next title shot at 185 pounds.

Du Plessis has mentioned the promotion wanting him to fight at UFC 312 in Australia but nothing was stated specifically for his opponent. Despite a flub in articulating where the South African champion at 185 pounds is from, Schaub said:

"It's probably gonna be [Sean] Strickland. It should be Strickland. I'm a little bit with Sean on this where last time, you know, which I thought he won that fight. Those judges, it didn't go his way. It's in 'DDP's' backyard. So I'm with Strickland. Nah, man, cut all the crap. Let's do this in America, see how it goes for you."

"I came to your place, lost my belt. You come to mine, we'll see how it goes. The only problem with that, if Sean is too difficult, Khamzat's right there and we all know the UFC wants Khamzat [Chimaev] to be champ. So it's hard to argue too. What he did to [Robert] Whittaker was insane, dude. Insane, so it's only a matter of time."

Sean Strickland and Khamzat Chimaev's cases for Dricus du Plessis' throne

Dricus du Plessis has taken the MMA world by storm as he awaits the chance to make his second title defense. After capturing the belt from Sean Strickland in January and then submitting Israel Adesanya to retain the gold in August, du Plessis went from being a contender to a defending champion within this calendar year.

For Strickland, he bounced back to the win column after the split decision setback against du Plessis to beat a former UFC middleweight title challenger. The polarizing fighter defeated Paulo Costa at UFC 302 in June and has since maintained that he is the next title challenger/

As for Chimaev, he is coming off of an emphatic first-round finish of a former UFC middleweight champion. This transpired at UFC 308 as Chimaev locked in a teeth-crushing face crank to garner the win over Robert Whittaker toward the end of October.
