UFC lightweight coming off a loss shares two-word reaction to Dan Hooker's "rematch" tweet

The UFC's resident lightweight boogeyman Dan Hooker recently released a cryptic tweet suggesting his next opponent inside the octagon. 'The Hangman' posted just one word, "Rematch".

Now, this could mean a lot of fighters, as Hooker fought over 30 men in his 15-year career. However, his most recent opponent, Mateusz Gamrot, replied to the tweet with just two words:

"Great idea 🔥"

'Gamer' and 'The Hangman' went to war in a Fight of the Night-worthy contest at UFC 305 last month. The hotly-contested bout ended in a split decision going to Hooker, with one judge awarding the bout to Gamrot. Both men had their moments with the Polish grappler showing his wrestling grit while the Kiwi showed the madman everybody loves.

A rematch between the two might be an interesting battle to revisit.

Dan Hooker may have a different target for his cryptic tweet, not Mateusz Gamrot

Interestingly, Mateusz Gamrot may not be the man Dan Hooker had in mind when he posted his one-word tweet. It may have been to get the attention of former interim UFC lightweight champion Dustiin 'The Diamond' Poirier.

A day before Hooker tweeted, Poirier also posted a cryptic, one-word tweet, saying:

"Trilogy?"

The former interim champ may have been looking for the most exciting fight he can get at the moment as he may be at the final stretch of his storied career. And Hooker maybe adding his name to the list of the men to give the Louisiana native a good bout, considering their last was a Fight of the Night-worthy contest in 2020.

Ironically, however, Poirier himself may have meant his tweet for someone else: fellow former interim UFC lightweight champ Justin Gaethje. Poirier and Gaethje have had two of the most exciting fights in UFC history, going 1-1 in their series.

It makes sense as well as both lightweights are coming off losses and might also be looking at the tail-end of their careers. Having them go at it one more time will surely cement their legacies in the sport forever. If they haven't done that already.
