UFC provides injury update on Matt Frevola after taking Fares Ziam's vicious knee to the face in scary UFC Paris knockout

The broadcast team shed light on Matt Frevola's condition after his UFC Paris KO defeat against Farez Ziam. The pair competed in the main card opening bout of the Sept. 28 event and Ziam appeared to be in control for most of the fight until the finishing sequence.

Frevola found himself in a bad spot when Ziam had a tight grip around his waist and took him down repeatedly in the third round. Desperate to get out of the disadvantageous position with Ziam on his back against the cage, the American fighter turned to face him. However, he took a devastating knee to the jaw that knocked him out on impact.

The UFC broadcast team announced that Frevola suffered a left orbital fracture but the CT scan came back negative. MMA journalist Nolan King shared the update on X:

"The #UFCParis broadcast says Matt Frevola suffered a left orbital fracture in his fight vs. Fares Ziam and added that a head CT scan came back negative."

Frevola shared a post-fight picture on X that did not show any major cosmetic damage or swelling. Gracefully accepting the defeat, he wrote:

"Live by the sword, die by the sword. Hope you guys enjoyed the fight and thanks for all the support."

Frevola, who earned his UFC contract through 'Dana White's Contender Series' has been a part of the promotion's roster since 2018. He rose to prominence with a three-fight finish streak that was capped by a first-round KO of Drew Dober at UFC 288. However, he has hit a rough patch since then and suffered KO defeats against Frenchmen Benoit Saint Denis and Ziam.

Meanwhile, the win over Frevola marked the most notable victory of Ziam's professional MMA career so far. This was his sixth win under the promotion's banner, extending his win streak to four. All five of his previous UFC wins came by decisions (4 UD, 1 SD).
