Adesanya, who's long been beheld as a combat sports megastar, is a former two-time UFC middleweight champion. The Nigeria-born Kiwi is on a two-fight losing streak. 'The Last Stylebender's' most recent octagon appearance ended in a submission defeat against reigning UFC middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis back in August 2024.

On the other hand, Imavov, who's a Dagestan-born French fighter, is on a three-fight win streak. 'The Sniper' is fresh off a unanimous decision victory against Brendan Allen in September 2024.

It's an incredibly pivotal fight for both, as a loss for Adesanya would further dent his standing as a longtime divisional elite, whereas Imavov losing would halt his momentum and cast him out of the title picture. Meanwhile, the fight's winner could potentially receive a UFC middleweight title shot in the near future.

The event will be co-headlined by a highly-anticipated showdown between striking wizards Shara Magomedov and Michael 'Venom' Page. Elsewhere on the card, middleweight prospect Ikram Aliskerov was set to face Andre Muniz in a matchup many fans believed would possibly be a barnburner. However, Muniz had to withdraw due to passport issues, owing to which that fight was taken off the card.
