Caio Machado continues to carve his path as an UFC fighter but is also tipping his cap to the older days of the sport in a looming Dwayne Johnson film project.

'The Rock' will be playing the role of Mark Kerr in the biopic 'The Smashing Machine'. The title references the fighting nickname of Kerr but it was also the title of the classic MMA documentary on the hulking heavyweight that has inspired this biopic effort.

Appearing on MMA Canada, Machado did address that because of NDAs he cannot discuss certain aspects of the film but did peel back the curtain as much as he could. In terms of how he came to be a part of this project from Seven Bucks Productions, Machado said:

"I saw the ad for the open calls online that a friend sent me. But I was in the middle of the fight camp to [Don'Tale] Mayes and I really didn't focus on that. But my coach at the time Chris Franco, he knew the stunt director from working in the movie industry in Vancouver. He asked Franco if he had a couple of big guys. He gave him my name, my credentials."

"They kind of always had that over there. I think it was one day or two days before that line, I got a call from him. He said hey, we have your file here but we never really got your application. Can you send so we can put you on review? The next day they already call me with a part to be Pete Williams. It's gonna be a small part but I'm excited."

Caio Machado and some of his other experiences on 'The Smashing Machine'

Caio Machado noted that there was a lot more waiting around associated with being on a film set than he expected heading in. That being said, he did enjoy being part of such a big project with commensurately big Hollywood stars.

The 30-year-old mentioned being able to be with 'The Rock' and how he got to film with the WWE legend. While he got to film with Dwayne Johnson, the blockbuster sensation was a hard guy to find time with when the cameras weren't rolling.

Machado mentioned how he knows The Rock is a busy guy and took it in no negative way that he had other responsibilities than portraying former lineal MMA heavyweight champion Mark Kerr. 'The Final Boss' was known to disappear into dealing with other related duties when the director says cut and everyone wraps.

As for Machado's next fight, 'Bigfoot' will make a move down to light heavyweight for his next outing on Nov. 2.

The native of Sao Paulo state will clash with Brendson Ribeiro at a UFC Fight Night offering set for Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Machado is also a Canadian citizen and will presumably have a lot of partisan support when the cage door gets shut behind him.
