UFC Vegas 101 just wrapped up, marking the first fight card of 2025 by a major MMA organization. The event took place on Jan. 11 at the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas and featured 14 fights across nine weight classes. This article provides a recap of the fights and the full event results.

In the main event, No.6-ranked strawweight contender Mackenzie Dern faced No.8-ranked Amanda Ribas. This fight was the rematch of their October 2019 encounter, which Ribas won by unanimous decision, handing Dern her first professional MMA loss.

In the rematch, both women had success in the striking department early on, but Dern secured a takedown to end Round 1. Ribas controlled Dern on the ground during Rounds 2 and 3. However, Dern reversed the position and achieved a high mount in the final minute of Round 3, ultimately trapping Ribas in an armbar and forcing a tap with just four seconds remaining in the round.

In the co-main event, veteran welterweight fighters Carlston Harris and Santiago Ponzinibbio faced off, aiming to get back in the win column.

After a competitive start, Harris knocked Ponzinibbio down towards the end of Round 1. The Argentine fighter survived the early scare but hit the canvas again in Round 2.

As the fight progressed into Round 3, Ponzinibbio started landing powerful strikes as Harris appeared to be fading. Harris survived the knockdown but struggled to fight back and maintain balance. After Ponzinibbio wobbled him a few more times and continued to land big shots, the referee stopped the action, declaring 'Argentine Dagger' the winner by TKO.

UFC Vegas 101: Main card results

An explosive clash between middleweight fighters Cesar Almeida and Abdul Razak Alhassan resulted in a first-round knockout win for Almeida. After being knocked down early, Almeida maintained composure as Alhassan followed him looping shots and little regard for defense. Almeida, who never took his eyes off his opponent despite getting hit with damaging shots, countered with a short right hook that knocked Alhassan out cold.

Chris Curtis and Roman Kopylov, notable middleweights outside the top 15, fought on the main card. In the fight, Curtis established an early lead, landing strikes that bloodied up Kopylov. However, the Russian started finding his rhythm in the second half of Round 2, wobbling the American with a left hand.

In Round 3, both fighters exchanged powerful shots. but Kopylov, who drew visible reactions with his strikes throughout the round, dropped Curtis with a head kick in the closing seconds and walked away. Referee Mark Smith waved off the fight, declaring Kopylov the winner by TKO, but Curtis protested the finish.

Christian Rodriguez faced highly touted prospect Austin Bashi, a standout from 'Dana White's Contender Series'. In Round 1, Rodriguez thwarted most of Bashi's takedown attempts and landed more significant strikes.

Although Bashi displayed wrestling control in Round 2, Rodriguez maintained pressure in the final round, preventing him from utilizing his grappling. Ultimately, Rodriguez won by unanimous decision, handing Bashi his first professional MMA defeat.

In the main card opening bout, Punahele Soriano secured a quick knockout victory over Uros Medic, marking his second consecutive win. Soriano responded to Medic's body shot with a charging combination, landing a powerful right hand that knocked Medic down. He followed Medic to the ground, and the referee halted the action after Soriano delivered a few more strikes.

UFC Vegas 101: Preliminary card results

In the preliminary card headlining bout, Felipe Bunes earned his first UFC victory by submitting Jose Johnson in the first round. Johnson, who initially showed better striking, left his arm exposed when the fight went to the ground, allowing Bunes to lock in an armbar and force a tap out.

Marco Tulio, who earned his UFC contract through Dana White's Contender Series, made a strong debut by knocking out Ihor Potieria in Round 1. A powerful right hand from Tulio dropped Potieria in Round 1, and despite his attempts to survive on the ground, Tulio got away with several strikes, prompting the referee to call the fight off.

Brazil's Thiago Moises defeated Trey Ogden by unanimous decision on the preliminary card. Ogden had a successful opening round with effective striking and constant activity. However, Moises turned the fight around with a dominant grappling show and controlled Ogden from the top position for most of the fight.

In another fight, DWCS standout Jacobe Smith made his short-notice UFC debut, scoring a stunning knockout of Preston Parsons. A powerful right straight and left hook combo knocked Parsons out, prompting the referee to stop the fight after a few follow-up strikes. The win extended Smith's professional MMA record to 10-0.

Elsewhere, Ernesta Kareckaite defeated Nicolle Caliari by a split decision while Bruno Lopes won against Magomed Gadziyasulov by unanimous decision.

In a strawweight contest, Fatima Kline delivered the first finish of 2025, defeating Viktoria Dudakova. Kline reversed positions when Dudakova initiated the grappling exchanges. Ultimately, Kline settled into the top position and delivered a series of vicious elbows on her opponent until the referee intervened to stop the fight towards the end of Round 2.

In the first fight of the night, Tajikistan's Nurullo Aliev faced Joe Solecki after a two-year break. Aliev dominated with his grappling and won by unanimous decision, boosting his professional MMA record to a perfect 10-0.
