UFC Vegas 101: Santiago Ponzinibbio vs. Carlston Harris: Live round-by-round updates

A welterweight clash between Santiago Ponzinibbio and Carlston Harris will go down on the main card of UFC Vegas 101, later this evening (Jan.11) at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

While Ponzinibbio (29-8) was once on a seven-fight win streak in the UFC, gone are his glory days, and the 'Argentine Dagger' is currently 1-4 in his last five, most recently suffering a split decision loss against Muslim Salikhov.

A win this weekend might be a non-negotiable for the 38-year-old to justify his place on the roster.

Harris (19-6) is 3-2 in his last five. Much like his opponent he too is coming off a loss. 'Mocambique' however does hold quality wins over the likes of Jared Gooden, and Impa Kasanganay among others.

Ponzinibbio will head into the fight as a -135 favorite, with Harris as a +114 underdog.

UFC Vegas 101: Santiago Ponzinibbio vs. Carlston Harris

Round 1

Ponzinibbio pressures his opponent right off the bat and tries to force Harris back into the cage wall. A fast 1-2 lands for the 'Argentine Dagger'.

Harris is employing stiff jabs to the midsection to halt Ponzinnibio's advance. 'Mocambique' tries for level change but his opponent defends it. A powerful body shot lands for Harris.

Doble jab, followed by right-hand lands for the 'Argentine Dagger'. Another takedown attempt by Harris gets defended. The Gahanna native stuns Ponzinibbio with a power jab.

Harris times a nuclear right hand that sits his opponent down on the canvas. The Argentinian gets back up and survives the round.

Our score: 10-8 Harris.

Round 2

Ponzinibbio seems to be employing a cautious approach following the knockout. Harris however seems to have settled into a rhythm and is stinging his opponent with jabs and right hands.

A good right-hand slips in for the 'Argentine Dagger'. Harris's face is wearing damage from his opponent's power punches. Harris once again drops Ponzinibbio with a power jab, the fighter however recovers quickly.

Jabs, 1-2, and debilitating body shots land for Harris. He sends Ponzinibbio off balance with a powerful right hand. The 'Argentine Dagger' fires combinations of his own, but seems to lack the power to give Harris any problems.

Our score: 10-9 Harris.

Round 3

Harris explodes for a takedown, but Ponzinibbio out muscles, and throws him down to the canvas. While the Argentinan momentarily gets top control, Harris quickly reverses position and takes his opponent's back, before making his way back to his feet.

A slick inside left hook from Harris stuns Ponzinibbio. The 'Argentine Dagger' hurts Harris with a hard shot. He then pounces on his opponent with a relentless flurry and Harris goes down.

Rather than engaging in grappling, Ponzinibbio lets his opponent back up and continues his barrage on the feet. Sensing Harris is on shaky legs and in no condition to fight, the referee stops the contest.

Ponzinibbio is the victor.
