Evan Elder suffered an unfortunate fate in his outing at UFC Vegas 69. 'The Phenom' was matched up against Nazim Sadykhov in a lightweight scrap in the prelims of the Fight Night event.

Elder got the better of his opponent for the majority of the fight. However, things went south in the third round as the 25-year-old suffered a deep cut right above his eye. This resulted in the doctor stepping inside the octagon and halting the fight. Sadykhov was declared the winner by TKO via doctor stoppage.

Many in the MMA community believe that the fight was stopped prematurely and should have been declared a no-contest instead of a win for 'Black Wolf'. 'The Phenom' had outscored Sadykhov in the first two rounds and was on his way to winning the fight before the horrific gash.

Dr. David Abbasi has shed light on the severity of Elder's injury. In a post uploaded to his Instagram account, Abbasi shared details about the injury and said if the supratrochlear vein near Elder's eye had been torn, it would have resulted in profuse bleeding:

"Here’s what we’re looking at on Evan Elder. Laceration at the medial border near his eyebrow- Its his supratrochlear vein! Its large/engorged due to increased blood flow from damage/exercise. Thank goodness wasn’t torn-bleeding would be gruesome! Head up Evan- You’ll be back!"

Nazim Sadykhov reflects on his fight against Evan Elder at UFC Vegas 69

It would be safe to say that Nazim Sadykhov's UFC debut did not pan out the way he would have intended it to. Sadykhov was declared the winner via doctor stoppage in a fight that he was losing.

In his post-fight octagon interview, 'Black Wolf' admitted that his timing was off in the fight and the pressure of the first UFC fight may have affected his performance inside the octagon:

"I'm going to be honest. I did not find my timing there as much as I would have liked to. I felt good coming in here, but the UFC debut jitters are for real. I knew it was going to be [tough] regardless... He's [Evan Elder] a tough cookie."
