UFC veteran turns down Sean O'Malley's apology after his unsuccessful title defense at Noche UFC 306: "Wasn’t needed."

Sean O'Malley failed to defend his bantamweight title for the second time as he suffered a unanimous decision loss to Merab Dvalishvili in the main event of UFC 306. His performance was largely lackluster as 'The Machine' was able to dominate the fight for most of the 25 minutes.

'Sugar' took to X following the bout to apologize to the fans for falling short of his lofty promises going into UFC 306, tweeting:

"Over promised under delivered. Sorry. Love you guys."

Former three-time title challenger and current mixed martial arts analyst Chael Sonnen quote-tweeted O'Malley's post, rejecting his apology:

"You took a division that once didn’t exsist and at another time was going to be dropped into the most watched division in the sport. You broke ALL TIME gate record and tried to win until the bitter end. Apology REJECTED. Wasn’t needed."

While O'Malley was able to capture the bantamweight title and defend it once, his loss to Dvalishvili sends him back to the drawing board. It is unclear what is next for 'Sugar', however, he will likely need at least one more win to re-enter the title conversation as his performance was far too lackluster and his reign too short to warrant an immediate rematch.

Henry Cejudo wants to face Sean O'Malley next

Sean O'Malley has exchanged words with Henry Cejudo on multiple occasions in the past. 'Triple C' was quick to target 'Sugar', letting off a series of tweets after the latter lost his bantamweight title at UFC 306. He initially called for the opportunity to settle their differences in the octagon:

"Merab found the formula to Sean! Let me at him next #UFC306"

He followed that up by claiming Dvalishvili won all five rounds:

"From sugar to shit! 50-45 [Georgian flag]"

Finally, Cejudo claimed he is willing to help O'Malley with his takedown defense:

"Hey O’Methyl…You wanted to be the next Conor McGregor-well now you are. Neither of you bums can defend a takedown. I’m teaching “Wrestling for Cokeheads” at 8 AM. See you in the morning. @SugaSeanMMA"

While O'Malley and Cejudo have had plenty of differences in the past, a bout between the two did not make much sense. Following the former's loss to Dvalishvili, who also beat the latter in his last bout, it would not be shocking to see the two share the octagon.
