Thompson uploaded a video to his YouTube channel, where he tested how much force he could get from a one-inch stance and whether it would be effective. After attempting the strike, martial arts instructor Kevin Lee explained the technique and stance to help generate more power.

Lee said:

"Instead of putting it here [position of his fist], we're actually pulling this way, so even though my hand's still touching I can pull back. Now watch my hip, then as I go, my body just drives forward."

The martial arts instructor then addressed when the strike would be effective. He mentioned that it could be useful when in a close distance, saying:

"So let's say I have you against the wall - against the cage - most of the time my hands will be right here [chest area] and that would be a shot to the head, to the body, to the knee, whatever you want."

'Wonderboy' practiced the punch on his PowerKube and seemed amazed by the effectiveness of the strike once he learned more about the technique.

Stephen Thompson snapped his two-fight losing skid

There are a lot of exciting options in the welterweight division for Stephen Thompson's next fight.

He most recently snapped his two-fight losing skid by defeating Kevin Holland via fourth-round TKO after 'Trailblazer's corner stopped the fight. It was an entertaining standup bout that saw both men earn a post-fight bonus for Fight of the Night.

Leading into the fight, 'Wonderboy' came off back-to-back losses and a third could have put his UFC future in jeopardy. Now that he has won in exciting fashion, it would be logical if the promotion booked him in a bout against another striker as it brings the best out of him.
