Hailey Cowan-Brennan, a rising star in the UFC women's bantamweight division, recently revealed that a ruptured ovarian cyst was the reason behind her pulling out of her debut fight against Ailin Perez at UFC Vegas 70.
In a statement released on her Instagram handle, Cowan-Brennan explained that she had been experiencing discomfort in her abdomen leading up to the fight, but had hoped it would subside in time for her to compete. She explained that the pain was due to a ruptured ovarian cyst, which caused significant blood loss and led doctors to cancel the fight.
Hailey Cowan-Brennan wrote:
"I had an ovarian cyst rupture in the night before weigh-ins. I lost a lot of blood and doctors pulled me. I was on weight and ready to go. Super unfortunate but we will rebook asap. Apologies to the fans and my opponent but this was beyond my control."

Ovarian cysts are a common occurrence in women of reproductive age, and while most are harmless, they can sometimes cause complications such as rupture, torsion, or cancer. A ruptured cyst can lead to significant blood loss and abdominal pain, as well as other symptoms such as fever and nausea.
Hailey Cowan-Brennan secured a contract with the UFC after claiming a split-decision victory over Claudia Leite in August 2022, during her appearance on Dana White's Contender Series. The win highlighted her potential as a fighter, and it was a testament to her skill and hard work.
UFC rookie Hailey Cowan-Brennan has ambitious expectations for future contracts
Hailey Cowan-Brennan was poised to make her much-anticipated debut in the UFC at UFC Vegas 70 against Ailin Perez. Unfortunately, she had to withdraw from the bout due to a ruptured ovarian cyst. While the cancelation of her first UFC fight was undoubtedly a setback, the 31-year-old American fighter has already set her sights on bigger things.
Cowan-Brennan has a clear plan in place for her UFC career, aiming to fight out her first and second contracts within the next two years.
During an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda MMA's James Lynch, 'All Hail' shared her aspirations of building a strong record in the UFC and fighting against top-ranked fighters in the women's bantamweight division as soon as possible. She stated:
"Want to knock out my whole first contract this year, that would be ideal. Just three fights a year, you know, that's ideal. I would like to do that and then renegotiate. I would like to knock out my second contract in a year too because if I can go get six wins then that puts me fighting at the top."
